The quest for Questions!

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

I enjoy writing – especially when it concerns answering a question. Thinking up questions to write about is difficult because I can think of many questions – but are they interesting questions?

So, what interests you about AIX. Ask your question, or questions and I’ll work on answering them, or finding someone who can answer them and post the answers in an FAQ, HOWTO and/or an article on http://www.rootvg.net.

Welcome to AIXTOOLS!

I am always looking for way to improve rootvg.net and have come up with two ideas. You are looking at one of them – starting a BLOG area to supplement the forums and comments on articles that we publish there. The second idea I have had for a long time is to support, or become a respository for open source tools that have been precompiled for AIX.

As the existing repository owners have not yet responded to my requests about mirroring them I concluded that it might be very hard for anyone to contact them and/or for anyone else interested in open source development and/or porting on POWER – more specifically on AIX – that I am starting this domain – aixtools.org

The first you have found already – wp.aixtools.org –> wordpress blogs.
The second is dl.aixtools.org –> downloads of precompiled AIX opensource packages.

The second site needs some eye candy – but it is live. The first package is apache2.2.14. If you are interested please download the package to a test server and try it out. I have installed it on an AIX 5.3 TL07 and AIX 6.1 TL02 system and it seems to work – but I want to hear from you and your experiences before I repackage it. I have ideas on how to improve it but again – your feedback counts!
